MT BAGWORKS

Theresa Ramirez is the Artist~Handcrafter~Maker behind MT Bagworks.

(Theresa is known as “Mother Theresa” by her friends & family. This is how the business name “MT Bagworks” came to be)!

Theresa has been a traditional "sew-ist" for over 55 years. She has consistently kept up with new sewing trends and sewing equipment, always endeavoring to continually improve her sewing skills and techniques.

Theresa turned her interests to bagmaking in 2020. She loves experimenting with bright colors and different textures and searching for uncommon prints, uncommon fabrics and often uses upcycled fabrics and upholstery scraps to take bags beyond the ordinary handbags sold in mass at retail stores. In early 2021, she launched MT Bagworks to share her creative vision through bag making and her love of sewing.

Theresa uses a variety of fabrics and high-quality handbag materials (leather upon request) for the main bag front & back panels, bases, handles and straps. She loves using brightly colored cotton canvas, waxed canvas, wool & wool blends, linen, quilting cottons, and decorative upholstery fabrics to create truly limited edition, one-of-a-kind bags that reflect her love of color, the outdoors, and her artistic expression.

Theresa & her husband live part of the year at their homes in Simi Valley, CA and Bishop, CA.

They are both avid hikers, campers, and backpackers in the Sierra and have trekked thousands of trail miles in the “biggest backyard.” The mountains, high desert, rustic outdoor living, combined with their suburban lifestyle & Theresa’s Hispanic heritage, heavily influences her creativity and color pallet choices.

Theresa thoroughly enjoys meeting other artists and new customers at the Makers Markets and Arts & Craft Shows in both regions.

Theresa specializes is sewing many different styles of handbags, luggage & accessories and welcomes custom orders to fit individual needs.
